After deliberating for months for different ways to make our music and merchandise available, we’ve decided to go with Limited Pressing.  It is a perfect fit for D.I.Y. artists.  Check out other Limited Pressing stores for lots of great D.I.Y. bands and independent labels.

We are writing and recording new material with a new line up and will have new releases available online soon.

Noise By 10.27.2010, 8:30, 24 3rd 41071, 5.00

We are really excited about a show we have coming up in October.

We will play the Southgate House Parlour, 24 E. 3rd Street, Newport, KY 41071, Wednesday, October 27th, 2010.

There will be a $5.00 cover to help support the touring bands.  Doors open at 8:30pm

We will play with Noise By Numbers [Asian Man Records / Chicago]; The Magnificent [England]; and Killer Star Effect.

Here is a little biography on Noise By Nubers:

“Though two of its members have much higher-profile pedigrees — Dan “Vapid” Schafer has played in Screeching Weasel and the Riverdales, as well as leading the Methadones, and Jeff Dean is in the Bomb — their new collaboration, Nosie By Numbers, with bassist Rick Uncapher (Textbook) and drummer Jimmy Lucido could easily be overlooked outside the punk underground, and that would be a shame. Noise By Numbers draws inspiration from the fertile ’80s indie-rock scene of Husker Du, the Replacements, Dinosaur Jr. and their ilk as well as classic Chicago punk sounds like Naked Raygun and the Effigies to inject a heaping dose of sing-along melody into every propulsive and hard-hitting groove, making for an instantly familiar yet somehow distinctive and fresh-sounding formula.” -Jim DeRogatis

Northside’s The Comet

We are getting ready for our next show with Da Muttss at The Comet in Northside Cincinnati.  We’ve been listening to Da Muttss together on the way to the studio ever since we booked this show.  I’ve had the hook from their track “White Trash” stuck in my head ever since the first listen.  They are a great local hip hop band.  Check out their songs on myspace at the link above, if you like what you hear, I just saw their album at Everybody’s Records on Montgomery Road so I know you can pick it up there.

This show will be a lot of fun.  We’ve played a couple other shows with hip hop bands and we love it.  Even the mope-iest of mopes in tightest of tight jeans can be moved to dance, or at least smile, with good live hip hop.

I should also mention that it will be especially fun for us because this should be our first show with our new member.  As mentioned in an earlier post, Delaney Elliott will be joining us on guitar.  Hope to see you there.

Lifelike is in process of adding another old childhood friend to the lineup.  We are going to take some time to teach our friend, Delaney Elliott, all of our songs.

Welcome Delaney!

And thanks to your old band for letting me steal this picture of you.

An albino, a mosquito, and my libido walk into a bar.

This post originally gave the details about a 90s tribute / american cancer society benefit show we were scheduled to play.  That show was cancelled.  The promoters, Speed of Sound, threw a make up show together for some of the bands originally booked. This show will be at the Mad Hatter in Covington, KY, June 19th.  There is also a plan in the works to re-schedule the benefit show originally planned to be a 90s tribute show.  We have opted out of playing either of these events for a variety of reasons but we will post up the event details if we can get them.

Want an Up Dog?

We are taking the month of May off from playing live in order to finish out old recordings and finish new material and we are excited to begin playing new sets with all new material and instrumentation.  This ongoing break will abruptly end June 1st, and as the date draws closer we are more excited than ever to play with Like Bells at Mayday.

. . . and contrary to past blog posts, this will not be a Ladies’ Night and there will be no DJ sets.  Which is a relief; a rock show we can handle; a ladies night with a DJ could get awkward.

We are also getting geared up for another show on June 19th.  We will play a Benefit Show featuring tons of local bands all playing songs that made their mix tapes in the 1990s.  We are excited to tap into our electronic bag o’ tricks for this show and play with some sounds much different than what you’ve heard at previous Lifelike shows.  More details to follow . . .

We will take July off to audition and/or create a new potential bandmate.

As far as August goes, our friends State Song will officially be releasing their first full length album on Phratry Records, we are happy to play their record release show at the Southgate House in Newport, KY on August 7th, this will be a whole house show with many many great bands local and touring – - Details Coming Soon

Tons of good shows and events coming up this summer around Cincinnati.  We will post more frequently to help promote shows and events featuring our friends as well, stay tuned.

Photography

We want this site to be about more than just self-promotion.  We’d like to share some of our other interests, not only in other musicians, but our interests outside of music as well.  With this in mind, from time to time we like to draw attention to the creative work of our friends, family, and hometown.

The photos of Lifelike on this site were taken by Ken Gibson.  We have just heard that one of Ken’s images has been selected for a juried exhibition titled “Nostalgia”.  The Gallery Statement explains the exhibition as follows:

“Photography is an art of the instant, of Cartier-Bresson’s “decisive moment.” But it is also an art of past moments – records of slices of time that no longer exist. In this juried exhibition, NOSTALGIA, we are interested in photographs that investigate aspects of past time, memory, and public or personal histories. For example, photographs can allude to the past through process, by using antiquated technologies such as the tintype; through subject, by focusing on objects or people with the aura of long ago; through place, by picturing places that have private or well-known memory associations.”

You can learn more here: Vermont PhotoPlace Gallery.  You can view Ken Gibson’s image and the images of all other photographers in this exhibition by clicking on this alphabetical listing.

See more of Ken Gibson’s images here.

Ken stopped by the studio a few months ago and took some shots of a rehearsal.  Thanks Ken.
